Project Spotlight: We Got The Power – Zakisha Brown

We Got The Power was born from fire.

It came from pain, from resistance, from healing—but most of all, from truth.
This song is a reminder.

A reminder to myself. A reminder to my community. A reminder to the world that no matter what systems try to silence us, we’ve always had the power inside us.

I wrote We Got The Power in a time when I was reflecting deeply on who we are as people—how much we’ve overcome, and how much strength we carry in our roots, our voices, our culture.

It’s a song about resilience. About knowing your worth. About not waiting for permission to rise.
Whether you’re a single mother holding it down, a young Black man fighting to be seen, or a creative pushing through doubt—this song is for you.

It’s that spiritual boost. That anthem energy. That “remember who you are” kind of vibe.

This wasn’t just a track to get people hyped—it was a declaration.

I wanted the visuals to match the message: bold, grounded, Black, beautiful, and real. From the powerful imagery to the way the beat hits your chest, everything about this project was meant to ignite something in you.

The message is clear:
“They try to lock the doors… but we got the keys.”
“We move through systems—but we don’t belong to them.”
“We’ve got the power—we just need to remember.”

This is the type of song you play before a protest, before a performance, or when you’re trying to tap into your purpose and your power.

Creating We Got The Power came with its own set of challenges—like trying to film and record independently, handling everything from concept to execution while still staying rooted in the message. Shooting for two days at different locations in Ghana, one in Akosombo and the other one in different parts of Accra, Renting busses, filming until 5am and paying homage to my ancestors like Malcolm X who paved the way.

No big machine behind it. Just me, my voice, my team, and the mission.

We filmed with intention, using powerful locations and symbols that reflected our strength. Every lyric, every shot, every beat was rooted in legacy.

Since releasing it, I’ve seen We Got The Power spark something in people. I’ve seen it used at marches, in classrooms, in healing spaces, and by creatives who needed a reminder of what they carry.

It’s more than a song—it’s a movement.

It’s a way to speak life into yourself and your community. And I’m proud that it came straight from the heart, unfiltered and fearless.
