Project Spotlight: Solitude – Zakisha Brown

I wrote Solitude when I finally learned how to love being by myself.

Not the kind of alone that feels empty—but the kind that feels free.

For so long, I used to feel like I needed to constantly be around people to feel validated or seen. I was always pouring into others, staying busy, and filling every silence with something… until I realized I didn’t actually know how to just sit with me.

So I stopped running from the quiet.

Solitude is about learning to be comfortable in your own energy.

It’s about falling in love with your own presence. It’s about the moment you realize,

“I actually enjoy my own company.”

“I don’t need noise to feel alive.”

“Peace feels better than performing.”

This song came from a place of real growth.

I was healing. I was protecting my peace. And I was starting to see that self-love isn’t just bubble baths and affirmations—it’s boundaries, rest, stillness, and choosing yourself over and over again.

This is one of those songs that feels soft and sacred.

It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t beg for attention. It just exists—calm and confident, like the version of me I was stepping into.

Solitude represents that turning point when I stopped fearing loneliness and started embracing solitude as self-intimacy.

I learned that my own energy could hold me, soothe me, and fill me up.

This song is a love letter to that version of myself. The one who finally chose peace.

I didn’t overthink it. I didn’t write it for the charts. I wrote it for my spirit.

I recorded it in a still moment, when the world was quiet and I could hear myself clearly.

The process felt like journaling in melody. I let the words come naturally.

No pressure. No pretending. Just presence.

The first time I shared Solitude, so many people reached out like,

“Wow, I’ve been learning to love being alone too.”

“This makes me feel seen.”

“Thank you for giving language to something I’ve been feeling.”

That’s what makes music powerful—when your personal healing becomes someone else’s reflection.

It was shot in the motherland Ghana at Palace Afrika Oyarifa.
