Business Spotlight: Niambi Book Club

Created by Zakisha Brown, inspired by my daughter Niambi

Becoming a mother changed everything.

When my daughter Niambi was born, I knew I wanted her to grow up seeing herself in the books she read, the stories she heard, and the characters she connected with.

I wanted her—and children like her—to feel powerful, beautiful, and proud of who they are from the very beginning.
So I started something rooted in love, legacy, and learning:
Niambi Book Club.

Niambi Book Club is an educational and empowering book-based experience created to help young Black children—in Ghana, in Canada, and across the globe—fall in love with who they are.

We focus on:
✅ Black-centered children’s books
✅ Confidence-building literacy activities
✅ Cultural education & affirmations
✅ Interactive storytime (virtual + in-person)
✅ Global connection between Black children across continents

It’s not just a book club—it’s a movement. A space where little Black boys and girls can learn to say:
“I love my skin.”
“I’m smart.”
“My hair is magic.”
“My roots are rich.”

I didn’t see many platforms truly celebrating Black children in a way that felt joyful, educational, and global.
And I didn’t want to wait on a system to give my daughter the education she deserved—I wanted to build it for her.
Niambi Book Club was created for her, but it’s for all of our babies.

Children in Ghana. Children in Canada. Children in the Caribbean, the UK, the US. Anywhere in the world where a young Black child needs to be reminded they are worthy, brilliant, and loved.

Our vision is to make Niambi Book Club a global hub for culturally-affirming literacy.

We’re building a space where:
📦 Families can receive curated Black children’s books
📖 Educators can access resources rooted in African & diasporic stories
🧒🏾 Kids can connect through storytime, art, and affirmations
🌍 Black children can see each other and know—they are not alone

We’ve started with community-based book drives, storytime pop-ups, and curated book bundles in Ghana and Canada. We’ve collaborated with parents, educators, local bookstores, and early childhood centers to bring representation straight to the shelves and into the hands of children.
And this is just the beginning.

It’s Black-led, mother-founded, and heart-driven.
It’s not just business—it’s personal. It’s about giving our babies what many of us never had growing up:
stories that reflect them, empower them, and teach them that their Blackness is a blessing.

📲 Follow the love: @NiambiBookClub | @Zakisha

This isn’t just for Niambi—it’s for the next generation of confident, brilliant Black children rising up all around the world.

If you’re an educator, parent, author, creative, or organization that wants to work together to expand the reach of Niambi Book Club—we’d love to hear from you.
