Project Spotlight: Make Africa Home Again – Zakisha Brown

Make Africa Home Again is one of the most personal and powerful songs I’ve ever created.
This wasn’t just music—it was a message. A calling. A prayer.

It came from the deepest part of me—after setting foot on African soil, feeling the sun, the soil, the rhythm… and realizing: this is home.

As someone born and raised in Canada, I grew up disconnected from my roots in many ways. I had pride, yes—but I also had questions.

When I finally traveled to Africa, especially Ghana, something in me shifted forever. It wasn’t just a trip—it was a return. A spiritual awakening.

This song was written right in the middle of that transformation.

Make Africa Home Again is about remembering.

Remembering who we are.

Remembering what was taken from us—and reclaiming it with joy, pride, and power.

It’s a song to every member of the African diaspora who’s ever felt lost, searching, curious, or disconnected. It’s an invitation to rebuild that bridge—to not just visit, but to invest, to learn, to love, and to make Africa home again.

This track is more than a vibe—it’s a vision.

When I say Make Africa Home Again, I’m not talking about a slogan or a catchphrase. I’m talking about legacy. About rebuilding broken connections. About using our voices, our dollars, our creativity, and our love to pour back into the continent that birthed us—even if we were born far away.

From the beat to the visuals, I made sure this song felt alive. You can hear the drums, feel the ancestral heartbeat, see the beauty of the land and the power of the people.
This is about returning to self—as individuals and as a people.

The Journey + Realness

Creating this project wasn’t easy. I was writing while traveling, travelling and recording in unpredictable settings, unfamiliar far locations and filming in the middle of real-life moments—not staged scenes.

But that’s what made it authentic.

No label. No filters. No limits.

Just truth, passion, and purpose.

I teamed up with local creatives. I listened more than I spoke. I built real connections, and I let the land speak through me. Every frame, every lyric, every outfit—even the food, fruits, children, community —was intentional.

Make Africa Home Again resonated in ways I didn’t expect.
People across the world—especially from the Caribbean, the U.S., the U.K., and the African diaspora—have messaged me saying:
“This made me cry.”
“Now I’m booking a flight.”
“I didn’t know how much I needed to hear this.”
That’s why I do what I do.
Music is medicine.
It’s memory.
It’s movement.

This song isn’t just about going back—it’s about building forward. Let’s make the return spiritual, sustainable, and community-led.
